Biomorphia

This work was inspired by the art concept of biomechanics and the creations of Hans Ruedi Giger and Hajime Sorayama. Common to them is the fusion of biological and mechanical forms. I aimed to explore this theme by associating nature and technology. The lush, dangling plant life on the floating islands in the movie Avatar also inspired the creation of a small biomechanical island.
Surreal and whimsical, the little island appears almost alive with its metallic surfaces and textured tendrils. The unusual merging of fiber optics, polymer clay, and found objects constructs a micro-universe where the line between animate and inanimate blurs. The overall effect is one of beauty and unease in strange equilibrium.
